Investment Analyst (Permanent)

Invest Nova Scotia is seeking an analytical, results-oriented, and motivated individual for the role of Investment Analyst who will be an integral member of the investment team. The Investment Analyst supports the investment team in all aspects of identifying and evaluating early-stage technology companies that offer the best potential for commercial success and financial sustainability. Under the direction of the Investment Principal, the Investment Analyst conducts diligence to fully assess the risk and return potential of early-stage deep technology companies while helping to accelerate the growth of investment portfolio companies.

The Investment Analyst is responsible for :

  • Conducting in-depth analysis of investment opportunities, including financial modelling, evaluating the market opportunity, and summarizing research findings.
  • Conducting primary and secondary market research through stakeholder calls and use of venture capital and intellectual property databases.
  • Supporting investment team members in the review, approval, and closing cycle for new and follow-on investments.
  • Participating in portfolio monitoring and reporting.
  • Providing administrative, documentation, and other support for the investment team.
  • Building a strong network of community partners to assist high-growth Nova Scotia companies.
  • Raising Invest Nova Scotia's profile in the venture capital and innovation communities.
Key Competencies
  • Working knowledge of entrepreneurship, venture capital, and proficiency in financial analysis.
  • Exposure to venture capital transactions and model legal documents.
  • Comprehension of financial statements and of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Broad knowledge of deep-technology sectors and technology advancements in society.
  • Domain expertise or general knowledge in the areas of business development, product commercialization, marketing, and sales.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with different scopes, complexity, and deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Confidence to operate in the external business and public sector marketplaces, build relationships, and build respect.
  • Experience with CRM databases.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the investment team and across the organization.
Education / Professional Experience
  • As the successful candidate you possess a bachelor’s degree in business, STEM or a related program with 1-3 years related business experience. Expertise in software engineering and artificial intelligence preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Your research findings are presented in a concise and organized manner to help inform investment decisions.

You communicate easily with entrepreneurs about their technical innovations and market applications, and you hold client information in strict confidence. You have a genuine desire to help entrepreneurs build great products that solve large problems.
