Intermediate Ventilation Technologist or Engineer

We are looking for an Intermediate Ventilation Consultant to join our Mining and Geology team. The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of challenging projects as both a standalone consultant and as part of our mining team. The role involves day-to-day mine ventilation responsibilities on a mine site and/or consulting experience, with an interest in business development and client relationships in the base metals / precious metals mining market. The position could be based in our Sudbury or Toronto office.

  • Provide mine ventilation design services for underground mine studies (scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, and detailed design)
  • Provide on-site assistance to clients via ventilation surveys, audits, and training
  • Coordinate mine ventilation projects with the mining team and other engineering disciplines (electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, civil/structural, etc.)
  • Prepare and oversee mine ventilation drawings and equipment specifications; assist with procurement
  • Prepare CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates and high-level heat load studies
  • Manage ventilation components of large and small projects
  • Liaise with clients and fan OEMs during selection of ventilation equipment
  • Mentor Mining E.I.T.s
  • Contribute to proposals and assist with business development
  • Author and contribute to mine ventilation study reports
Qualifications and requirements
  • Undergraduate or Degree in Mining from a recognized university or a Diploma from a recognized technical college
  • Minimum of 5 years of underground mining experience in operations and/or consulting
  • Member of PEO, OACETT, or eligibility to become a member of a professional association for engineers or technologists
  • High proficiency with underground mine ventilation design software such as VentSim
  • Understanding of ventilation system control methods and environmental monitoring
  • Knowledge of Battery Electric Equipment (BEV)
  • Operational experience with ventilation in various underground mining methods (e.g., cut & fill, sub-level stoping, sub-level block caving, block caving)
  • Experience in mine ventilation equipment selection and cost estimates
  • Experience with mine design software such as Deswik, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac, or Minesight
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
  • Enthusiasm for business development and firm growth
  • Professional communication with colleagues and clients in a technical manner
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including remote locations
  • Fluency in English; functionality in a second language (French or Spanish) is an asset
