Overview

Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer – Burnaby, BC

Join EXP to work with a team of engineers, architects, designers, scientists and professionals who solve complex challenges across Western Canada. You will be part of the Geotechnical team for Western Canada, based in Burnaby, and collaborate with EXP team members across the region on large, challenging projects.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

As part of the Geotechnical group, you will contribute to project design, analysis and field work, with opportunities to engage on local projects and collaborate with colleagues across Western Canada. You will be involved in project deliverables throughout design, construction and closeout phases.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Project Engineers/Managers, clients, design staff, field technical staff and materials testing staff on projects in and around Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley, with opportunities to work on larger regional projects
  • Prepare proposal scopes and budgets
  • Coordinate subcontractors/subconsultants, EXP design and field staff to execute projects
  • Conduct geotechnical site investigations and analyses
  • Prepare geotechnical reports
  • Act as Engineer of Record (EoR) or design engineer support on project assignments
  • Project construction phase deliverables including design submissions (Issued for Permit and Issued For Construction drawings)
  • Prepare Letters of Assurance and coordinate EXP technical and field support staff
  • Support project construction meetings and respond to technical inquiries during construction
  • Conduct field reviews to support EoR quality assurance
  • Prepare design memos/letters and field review reports during construction
  • Project close-out deliverables including Letters of Compliance and close-out documents
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological/geotechnical engineering
  • Registration as a professional engineer with EGBC
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Project management experience
  • Strong technical, problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Team player with ability to work independently or as part of project teams
  • Excellent organizing, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD)
  • Experience in engineering programs (gINT, SlopeW, MSEW, etc.)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license to travel to client offices and project sites

The salary range for this role is between $92,000 to $122,000. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and work location.
