Job summary

A community recreation organization in North Vancouver seeks a Tai Chi and Qi Gong Instructor to lead wellness-focused classes. The ideal candidate should have experience in instructing and be passionate about promoting physical activity and healthy aging in an inclusive environment. This casual role requires flexibility in scheduling and offers $34.80 per hour plus vacation pay.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead weekly Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes for adults and older adults.
  • Track attendance and report any issues to your Supervisor.
  • Maintain professional demeanor as a representative.

NVRC is seeking a passionate and qualified Tai Chi / Qi Gong Instructor to lead wellness-focused group classes as part of our community programming. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to promoting physical activity, stress reduction, and healthy aging in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

ABOUT YOU
You are an energetic and highly-motivated individual who is available to plan and lead weekly Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong classes for adults and/or older adults. You have experience in instructing Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong classes and are skilled in proper technique and safe demonstration of movement patterns. You are a team player who is committed to community. You are reliable, responsive to customer needs and excellent at building relationships. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with a diverse group of people and instructing in a safe and friendly manner. In addition, you are experienced in:

  • Creating a supportive and engaging environment for participants of all ability levels.
  • Adapting exercises to meet varying mobility and experience levels, with a focus on safety.
  • Effective communication with participants and recreation staff.
  • Tracking attendance and reporting any issues or concerns to your Supervisor.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor as a representative of North Vancouver Recreation and Culture.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • The ideal candidate will have certification and/or formal training in Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong instruction from a recognized provider and a current certification in Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED.
  • Previous experience teaching group classes in a community setting.
  • Knowledge of exercise modification for older adults or participants with limited mobility.
  • A clear and current Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector) is required.

Hours may vary and instructors should be prepared to work early mornings, evenings and/or weekends at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location, which may include outdoor spaces. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.

HOURLY RATE: The pay for this casual position is $34.80 per hour, based on education and experience, plus 4% vacation pay.
