Job description
Overview

Black & McDonald is currently seeking an experienced HVAC Refrigeration Technician to join our team! If you are a hands-on, customer service-oriented, and technically-inclined professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The position is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC) at the Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC and reports directly to the Facility Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Keeps all HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment in safe and proper working conditions.
  • Performs preventative, corrective & demand maintenance work on all HVAC and refrigeration related equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Troubleshoots equipment to locate & repair problems, replace filters, check for leaks and refill/replace refrigerants.
  • Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces equipment components and faulty parts including BAS components.
  • Responds to environment and comfort complaints.
  • Keeps accurate maintenance records including work performed and parts used.
  • Maintains, overhauls and repairs automatic temperature controls, VAV boxes, heat exchangers, and other related equipment.
  • Completes work including new installations and alterations.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Completes maintenance records and work orders.
  • Observes and implements safety regulations and practices.
  • Observes and implements applicable regulations made under the Provincial and Federal statutes and Municipal by-laws.
  • Ensures HVAC and refrigeration systems stocks are kept in a secure location and inventory levels are maintained and recorded.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all shops and mechanical rooms.
  • Updates HVAC and refrigeration related documentation (drawings, specifications, O&M manuals, valve tag charts, etc.).
  • Participates and supports other duties as assigned including assisting other maintenance trades.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including non-related HVAC and refrigeration duties.
  • Available to work stand-by hours, shift work and overtime.

Education Requirements
  • Valid BC or Inter Provincial HVAC Journeyman trade ticket
  • Limited electrical license
  • Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration codes, Health and Safety Act and all applicable CSA Codes
Work Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in all aspects of institutional HVAC and refrigeration equipment maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment
  • Working knowledge of building services including air conditioning, BAS, refrigeration and electrical and mechanical equipment controls and systems
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations including but not limited to: use or wear of equipment or protective devices or clothing for safety purposes, report any known contravention of this Act or regulations or the existence of any hazards
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required

Expected compensation for this role is $49.92/hour in accordance with the UA Local 516 union rates.
