Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Human Resources Manager located in Barrie, ON. The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for overseeing HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance with labor laws, and HR policy implementation. The role will involve managing employee benefits programs, conducting training and development initiatives, handling employee grievances, and ensuring a positive work environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate employee records, advising management on HR matters, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • Five (5) years management or supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing, unionized environment
  • Three (3) years experience managing occupational and non-occupational disability claims, accommodations and return to work plans
  • Experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, and employee relations
  • Knowledge of labor laws, HR compliance, and policy implementation
  • Skills in performance management, payroll (Ceridian Dayforce preferred), benefits administration, and training development
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Post secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • HR certification (CHRP, CHRL) is preferred
  • Must have valid driver license and reliable, own transportation
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership on all human resource related issues including labor relations, employee services, compensation and occupational health and safety
  • Manage the recruitment process including talent acquisition, interviewing and onboarding new employees. Create and recommend a strategic recruitment and retention program for the company
  • Manage employee orientation programs to ensure integration into the company culture
  • Manage non-occupational disability leaves, accommodations and return to work programs
  • Oversee and ensure corporate compliance with performance management systems, including attendance management
  • Handle employee relations issues and oversee the grievance procedure, including conflict management and resolution strategies
  • Ensure business practices comply with the company policies and the collective agreement; participate in collective bargaining and other major management/union issues
  • Participate as a company representative in legal proceedings such as third stage grievances, arbitrations, WSIB tribunals etc.
  • Conduct investigations relating to employee complaints, health and safety issues, or alleged legislative violations such as Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Research and recommend changes or create new policies and programs related to HR
  • Ensure effective and relevant HR statistics are produced regularly and used to make informed decisions
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, legislative and regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law
  • Assign and delegate projects and responsibilities to two (2) direct reports
  • Provide formal and informal performance feedback to direct reports
  • Establish short and longer-term departmental goals and targets
  • Other duties as assigned
