JOB OVERVIEW:The HR Generalist is responsible for meeting the business’ HR needs in multiple provinces, in accordance with BEST’s culture, mission, and values. The incumbent will be responsible for completing various activities, including but not limited to, assisting site leadership with the interpretation of Collective Agreements, employee/management communications, onboarding, ensuring legislative compliance in BC, AB & ON, employee feedback, and creating and maintaining HR-related documents. The ideal candidate would have an inherent ability to understand forthcoming legal changes, by means of self-development via CPHR Association, and staying up-to-date with political changes and their effects on all aspects of employment standards, health & safety, and privacy laws.

POSITION TYPE:Permanent (Hybrid)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interprets collective agreements and support site leadership with labor relations inquiries;
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute HR programs at unionized and non-unionized sites including but not limited to compensation, leave management, discipline/performance management, disputes, incidents, investigations/grievances, rewards & recognition, and core HR training & development;
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with HR programs and training;
  • Assist with creating & updating internal policies ensuring legal compliance with Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, & Privacy laws in BC, AB, & ON;
  • Administer and manage employee feedback;
  • Conduct HR SOP training sessions with site leadership;
  • Handle employment-related inquiries employees, and site level leadership staff, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to HR Manager or senior management;
  • Create & maintain job descriptions, and other HR documents as required;
  • Assist with managing the rewards and recognition program;
  • Remain up to date with Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, and Privacy laws; and maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, and regulatory changes and make recommendations to maintain compliance;
  • Conduct and review background checks, process employee letter requests;
  • Reporting & reconciliation;
  • Other duties as required to support business growth.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Thorough understanding of Labour Relations, Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, & Privacy Laws in BC, AB, & ON;
  • Excellent interpersonal & communicational (written and verbal) skills;
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office;
  • Dealing with high volume, fast-paced environment,
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multitask without being overwhelmed;
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with all internal and external stakeholders;
  • Intrinsic ability to effectively analyze, plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in a union-environment preferred;
  • HR related post-secondary diploma/degree preferred;
  • Minimum 1-2 years previous related work experience;
  • CHRPDesignation or working towards CHRPdesignation considered an asset;
  • Acceptable security and criminal record check.
