Temporary Full-Time

Up to 6 Months

The County of Hastings has a current vacancy for a Temporary Full-time Human Resources Assistant with our Human Resources Department. Reporting to the Human Resources Advisor and / or Manager of Human Resources, this Generalist position supports the Human Resources department in all aspects of Corporate Human Resources including pension and benefits, compensation, labour relations, retirements, onboarding, corporate Health Safety and Wellness, Disability Management, and talent management and acquisition.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures consistent application of applicable collective agreement(s) related to the assigned portfolio and supports the organization through portfolio related labor relations.
  • Ensures HRIS and payroll processes within department are accurate, by reviewing / approving changes and working through complex issues with Human Resources Assistants.
  • Provides daily support to managers, employees, and Human Resources Assistants in day-to-day inquiries relating to questions, concerns, or issues relating to Compensation & Benefits.
  • Audits, reviews, and analyzes HRIS data to ensure accuracy and integrity in the production of meaningful reports for Departments as well as individual employees and to provide recommendations to compensation strategies and benefit adjustments for collective bargaining.
  • In collaboration with the treasury department and other Human Resources Advisors, provides support and direction on the implementation of rate changes as approved by County Council and retroactivity as it relates to compensation for all union and nonunion employee groups.
  • Leads the Human Resources Department through audits and reports relating to compensation and benefits including surveys and annual renewals and pension administration.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County by-laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three-Year Undergraduate degree In Human Resources or Three-Year Undergraduate degree with relevant major(s) and a one-year post graduate diploma from a recognized Human Resources Management Program.
  • CHRP designation required or demonstration that designation will be acquired within two years.
  • 1-2 years\' related professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of all employment related provincial / federal legislation (i.e., Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act).
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Discretion and good judgment are required in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Must possess a strong ability to multi-task in a high caliber environment.
  • Must possess ability to take initiative to improve work processes.
  • Proven decision-making and problem-solving abilities required.
  • Knowledge / ability to apply Microsoft Office software.

HOURS OF WORK :

  • Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours / week).
  • Occasional overtime may be required for project completion.

WAGE RANGE : $41.19 / hour + 6% vacation per pay + 14% in lieu of benefits
