Job Summary

The Human Relations Business Partner (HRBP) will implement HR strategies customized to divisional and ministry unit needs at The Salvation Army of Canada. They will deliver HR programs locally, support performance management processes, provide expert HR guidance to leaders, and work with the Service Centre to resolve complex HR issues and transactions.

Key Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align HR strategies with organizational goals, communicate policies effectively, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Support creation and updates of job descriptions using standardized templates and tools, ensuring alignment with Workday and job evaluation processes.
  • Assist in executing the performance cycle, analyze effectiveness using data, and support leaders in managing reviews and improvement plans.
  • Address employee relations issues, interpret collective agreements, manage grievances, and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Guide leaders through misconduct and non-compliance cases, recommend appropriate actions, and document outcomes for future evaluation.
  • Conduct fact-finding and abuse investigations, collaborate with stakeholders, and manage case documentation and resolution.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance with Workday to ministry units, perform transactions, and generate employment-related letters.
  • Work closely with Centres of Expertise (CoEs), union partners, and internal departments to resolve complex HR matters.
  • Monitor organizational risks, ensure adherence to HR policies and legal requirements, and support ethical decision-making.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Qualifications
  • Completion of a university degree in social sciences, human resources, or related field.
  • Completion or working towards completion of valid HR designation (i.e., CPHR).
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive experience in a human resources generalist role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including ESA, Human Rights Code, OHSA, and WSIA.
  • Familiarity with human resources information systems, especially Workday.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining efficient and effective HR processes.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
  • Experience in labour relations is considered an asset.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly, present effectively, and build positive relationships.
  • Skilled in multitasking, time management, and resolving complex issues.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior, business acumen, and alignment with organizational values.
  • Flexible and self-directed, with the ability to work cooperatively in a supportive team environment.
  • Willingness to support The Salvation Army’s mission and undergo required background checks.
Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $66,831.48 to $83,539.35 with a maximum of $100,247.22. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
