Position Title: HIV Prevention Specialist
Reports to: Director of HIV Programs
Work Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (with occasional evenings and weekends)

We're on a mission to provide comprehensive, high‑quality care to our diverse community. We're currently seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our HIV Department as a Health Educator. This role offers a chance to contribute creatively to a dynamic organization, working towards a healthier future.

Role Overview

As a Health Educator in our HIV Department, you will be at the forefront of sexual health promotion and HIV prevention efforts in Central Brooklyn. Through community outreach, health education, HIV testing, and linkage to care, you will empower individuals, especially those at highest risk, to make informed choices and access vital health services. This position is ideal for someone passionate about health equity, community engagement, and harm reduction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead interactive and informative workshops on HIV-related topics in community-based settings.
  • Distribute HIV prevention materials, including condoms, to individuals and partner organizations.
  • Administer rapid HIV tests using fingerstick blood collection; deliver results and provide post-test counseling.
  • Offer personalized risk-reduction counseling and health education to individuals at elevated risk for HIV.
  • Conduct street-based, venue-based, and digital outreach to engage high-risk populations.
  • Facilitate conversations about HIV prevention strategies (e.g., HIV testing, PrEP, PEP, and safer sex practices).
  • Design and facilitate a support group specifically for women living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Maintain and update educational resources and outreach materials.
  • Accurately document all outreach, testing, and educational activities per program protocol.
  • Submit timely and thorough activity and data reports.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training.
  • Complete additional tasks and special projects as assigned by the Program Director.
Qualifications

  • Comfort with street outreach and discussing sexual health and harm reduction.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS) is highly advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social services, or related public health field is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and Haitian Creole is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of central Brooklyn neighborhoods is a positive attribute.
