Opening Statement

Located in picturesque Gananoque, the Thousand Islands Boat Museum engages visitors with the special traditions and culture found along the Canadian shores of the St. Lawrence River. From adventures on the river in antique boats to dynamic in-water displays, the TIBM brings the river to life by telling stories through boats. Local marine heritage gets showcased in a whole new way in the recently completed Boathouse, where visitors can experience river life through lively exploration.

Position Summary

Heritage Experience Guides are the first faces visitors see when they visit the Thousand Islands Boat Museum. In this role, you will serve as host and guide for members of the community and the public visiting the site. You will also experience and learn all the ‘behind the scenes’ work that goes into developing exhibits, caring for artifacts, running successful events and fundraising. Ideal candidates must have outstanding customer service capabilities, possess a positive attitude, be self-motivated and well accustomed to teamwork.

Job Description

The successful applicant will:

  • Ensure that each visitor’s experience at the Boat Museum is engaging and meaningful and that all questions are answered accurately
  • Welcome visitors, research and interpret exhibits, and provide orientation and information so that every visitor leaves with a greater understanding and appreciation for the rich history of the region
  • Conduct daily tours for all ages to interpret the In-Water fleet to the public, work in the Boathouse and on the docks welcoming visitors
  • Carry out maintenance of the in-water fleet of antique boats
  • Help, support, and contribute to daily museum operations
  • Contribute to woodworking projects working hands-on alongside the Museum Manager
  • Assist with marketing, education, and membership initiative and activities
  • Complete sales related tasks and retail operations
  • Develop and implement educational materials and programs
  • Help organize all aspects of events
