Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Health & Wellness Manager or Director of Care, the Health Care Aide provides personal care and performs tasks within their knowledge and skill, under the supervision while adhering to regulatory and company standards, policies, and procedures.
- Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor;
- Facilitate residents' move-in and transfers where applicable;
- Observe and report on resident care / services using appropriate forms or tools;
- Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and daily activities;
- Observe and report changes in residents' conditions to supervisor;
- Escalate medical emergencies to supervisor or emergency services as appropriate;
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required;
- Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and use of adaptive aids;
- Understand resident needs and maximize abilities;
- Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents and families;
- Maintain resident information confidentiality;
- Respond to resident and family concerns and take appropriate action or escalate as needed;
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, including residents' belongings and equipment;
- Report safety concerns and implement interventions as directed;
- Engage with other agencies involved in resident care as directed;
- Attend in-services to develop knowledge and skills;
- Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults;
- Uphold the organization's values and ethics;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Health Care Aide program or provincial equivalent with minimum 500 hours of theory and practicum (Ontario & Alberta);
- Experience working with seniors in community health settings;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Organizational and time management skills;
- Interpersonal and customer service skills;
- Proven skills in providing personal care;
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended;
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and transferring clients;
- Provide a recent (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one.
