Position Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Health & Safety Facilitator is the primary Health & Safety resource of the plant. Present on the production floor, he / she works closely with the Corporate Health & Safety Department and the plant’s Joint Health and Safety Committee. Primarily responsible for providing support to plant personnel to ensure :
- That health and safety procedures, policies and practices are implemented, understood, applied and improved.
- And to coach teams and develop the H&S culture within the company.
Responsibilities
- In coaching mode, supports plant managers and team leaders on a day-to-day basis (interactions, corrective & preventive actions, action plans, investigations & event analysis, etc.).
- Is the plant's accessible resource for all H&S-related issues.
- Participates in the implementation, communication and maintenance of Golden Safety Rules, programs, procedures and instructions.
- Makes observations in the field and recommends improvements.
- Communicates H&S messages and information (Poka, H&S notice boards, traffic lights) and provides communication elements to teams for their Tier.
- Is involved in risk analyses of tasks and workstations, audits and inspections, M8 monitoring.
- Participates in H&S audits and may train / coach auditors.
- Participates in and leads H&S committee meetings and activities, with the aim of making them autonomous and proactive. He / she provides them with data and information relating to the plant's specific activity.
- Provides specific H&S training when required.
- Is present as and when required on the various shifts to support the teams.
- Assists the managers in monitoring the plant's H&S plan.
- Other initiatives, tasks and projects as required by the Plant Manager.
Requirements
Must possess :
- Leadership, able to influence by example.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all levels of the organization.
- Good analytical skills, autonomy, good organisational skills and ability to manage priorities.
- Solid knowledge in developing and implementing Health and Safety policies / procedures.
- Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Good knowledge of H&S regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Ability to conduct the necessary research on the Internet.
- Ability to handle confidential information (e.g. accident investigations).
- 2-3 years' experience in a health and safety position would be an asset.
