Job Summary

The Global Logistics Team is looking for a Customs Specialist to help enforce the compliance of GDI's Canadian and US imports. As a Customs Specialist, you will report to the Customs Manager and be an internal resource capable of managing day-to-day Canada and US compliance, ensuring timely customs clearance, coordinating monthly duty drawback filing, and performing other exciting and engaging activities.

Main Responsibilities
  • Review all import documents to ensure that GDI remains compliant in the matters of classification, valuation, origin, product requirements, trade agreements, and record-keeping;
  • Track pending clearances in real time, prioritizing based on emergencies and taking actions with the brokers, CBSA, and CBP to achieve customs release;
  • Approve and assign a Canadian and US HS code to all new products;
  • Ensure that additional required forms are on file and shared with the customs broker (drop ball certificate, footwear declaration, etc.);
  • Spot-check B3 and 7501 customs declarations bi-weekly;
  • Align our broker's platform with our internal systems (Oracle , Bamboo Rose);
  • Resolve product description and value issues with the Sourcing and Product Management teams;
  • Retrieve missing documentation with our group of finished goods suppliers and request B2 amendments/post-entry corrections;
  • Prepare ATA Carnets for photoshoots;
  • Retrieve, validate, approve, and file 7501 customs declarations;
  • Approve and file customs broker service invoices;
  • Cross-train to be able to customs-clear into the UK;
  • Assist IT, Marketing, and other departments with HS classification;
  • Carry out E-commerce clearance with any courier for CA, US, and UK parcels.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in customs brokerage, import/export business, expediting functions, and materials transportation administration required;
  • Strong technical proficiency with classification of goods within the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and US customs rules and regulations for women's apparel, as well as the proven ability to apply customs rules and regulations;
  • Knowledge of regulations enforced by other government agencies (FDA, USDA, CPSC, FCC, Fish and Wildlife) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of anti-dumping regulations;
  • Proficient knowledge of world geography and import documentation;
  • Strong English communication skills (written and spoken), with knowledge of French being a definite asset;
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and strong team player;
  • BAC, Certificate, DEC, or AEC in Finance/Business Administration, Transport, or Supply Chain;
  • CIFFA Certification is an asset;
  • Completion of the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certificate, the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Qualification Certificate, or the Certified Customs Specialist title is an asset.
