Overview

Position: Graphic Design Assistant

Location: Conestoga College – Doon Campus (work may occasionally be required or permitted at other locations or remotely)

Time Requirement: Up to 20 hours per week (Some evenings and weekends may be required)

Reporting to: Graphic Design Specialist

Start Date: April 21st, 2026

Hourly Wage: $21.15

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Graphic Design Assistant is responsible for creating, developing, and implementing advertising and promotional material that will be used for activities and events on all campuses. This position is also responsible for creating and updating signage and corporate branding. It is important that the Graphic Design Assistant works very closely with all departments to ensure that the CSI brand and company image are accurately represented.

In carrying out the duties of this position, a great deal of autonomy is exercised with final oversight by the Marketing & Communications Coordinator. It is also important that the Graphic Design Assistant works closely with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to stay up to date on the basic overall operations of CSI’s promotional efforts. In all activities, it is crucial that the Graphic Design Assistant recognizes that service to students is a top priority.

You will learn to:

  • Conceptualize and develop design solutions using principles of design and industry practices to create visual communications that meet the needs of the project.
  • Communicate branding, promotional material, and other information persuasively and accurately, in oral, written, graphic and interactive media formats.
  • Use effective interpersonal and collaboration skills to complete interdisciplinary projects that meet the requirements of all stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, produce, post, and distribute promotional print & digital materials for all CSI events and activities
  • Ensure that all CSI Bulletin Board materials are printed accurately and in a timely manner to ensure bulletin boards are up-to-date
  • Ensure monthly activity calendars are created and updated for all bulletin boards
  • Create advertisements and signage for CSI/CSSI services, ensuring all are up-to-date and accurate
  • Create social media graphics
  • Ensure all CSI branding, information, and promotional material follow branding regulations
  • Assist in ensuring the marketing and events goals and targets are met as outlined in the annual CSI marketing and events plan
  • Ensure advertisements are submitted to Conestoga College for advertising CSI on all media outlets
  • Assist in creation of front office and service area displays/artwork
  • Ensure interoffice mail is arranged monthly for campus posters as needed

Other General Duties

  • Work in accordance with corporate by-laws, policies, and procedures, particularly to the CSI Mission Statement
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety laws, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality for business practices
  • Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy and confidentiality are critical
  • Mandatory attendance at CSI related training days
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: This position spends long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. Lifting of supplies and materials up to 30 lbs is required from time to time.

Environmental Conditions: This position performs work from a suitable location of their choosing and may be faced with frequent interruptions and meetings with others on a regular basis. Travel between campuses and performance of work from home is required as needed. Some work may be required after office hours and on weekends.

Sensory Demands: This position requires long periods of intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer, which requires visual focus, attention to detail, and high levels of accuracy.

Mental Demands: This position is expected to manage and meet multiple competing deadlines, which can cause significant stress. The incumbent also deals with a wide variety of people on various issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled in a full-time program at Conestoga College and be a fee-paying student
  • Preference will be given to those in a program related to graphic design or a related field
  • Candidates must also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Possession of a high-performance computer capable of running industry-leading graphic design software/programming
  • Current knowledge of and experience with industry-leading software and programming (especially Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • Access to Adobe Creative Suite
  • A creative mind, with proven ability to develop new design concepts, graphics/layouts
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities while maintaining quality of work and meeting deadlines
  • Consistent and reliable access to a stable internet connection

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

  • Be in a full-time degree, diploma, or certificate program at Conestoga College
  • Maintain a full-time course load. Part-time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load
  • For Spring term positions (May to August), students must be returning to full-time studies in the Fall term to be eligible.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number

International Students Must:

  • Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment
  • Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit
  • Adhere to all Canadian student visa requirements
