Reports to: Director of Planning / Development Services GIS Analyst

Location: Initial Placement – Paris Administration Office

Summary of Duties

Reports to and carries out work under the direction of the Director of Planning. Undertakes and assists staff in a variety of planning, environmental, and natural heritage‑related assignments and studies, including research, survey, data‑gathering, data maintenance, and data analysis. Provides graphic design assistance in the preparation of reports and studies.

Work Performed
  • Completes various data maintenance, editing and data updates as needed.
  • Undertakes research, survey, data‑gathering, data monitoring, data analysis, and mapping analysis related to Planning and Development projects and processes.
  • Provides information to other planning staff, municipal departments, agencies, elected officials, community organizations and the general public.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports; and provides information to senior staff, pertaining to Planning assignments.
  • Assist with graphics in the preparation of reports and presentations. Develops illustrative urban design drawings, maps, and 3D modeling to assist Planning and Development staff in their projects.
  • Conducts, or assists in the preparation of studies, strategies, guidelines and projects relating to the long term planning for sustainable development of land, facilities and services, including the study of demographic, socio‑economic, physical and environmental factors; solicits input from other departments, divisions, agencies and the public.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a University or College GIS or Planning program, or related field.
  • Must be a current student enrolled in full‑time studies returning to school full‑time September 2026 and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.
Specialized Training & Licenses
  • Working knowledge in graphic design related software, such as Google SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and ArcGIS
  • Strong computer skills in Windows Office programs, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working understanding of planning legislation, and planning, natural heritage, sustainability and resiliency principles and practices would be an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Duration: May to August or May to December (35 hours/week)

Hourly Rate: $22.54 (2025)

You must be enrolled in a post‑secondary institution and returning to school the following semester to qualify for this position with the exception of completing a final co‑op term.
