Job description

Esri Canada has an exceptional opportunity for a GIS Data Analyst to join our Ratio.City team.

Reporting to the Data Manager, the person in this role will work closely with the Ratio.City Planning Data Team and will be responsible for sourcing and managing urban planning data to support the Ratio.City web app. The successful candidate will also provide technical support to clients, so an understanding of users in the land use development realm and their requirements is key.

This role will be based remotely in Canada.

A Day in the Life of a GIS Data Analyst at Esri Canada:
  1. Identify and acquire data from authoritative sources relevant to land use planning
  2. Perform data quality control, cleaning, processing and GIS analysis
  3. Transform data into useable formats, including but not limited to, georeferencing and manual conversion of PDFs to spatial formats
  4. Ingest data into the Ratio.City platform, including field mapping, styling and the creation of metadata
  5. Develop scripts, processes and methods to automate or otherwise make data acquisition and maintenance more efficient
  6. Actively develop documentation, blogs, videos and other communication material that provides internal and external technical guidance and social media content
  7. Research urban planning concepts across Canada to help develop a novel urban planning ontology
What you bring to the team:
  • 1+ years experience with Ratio.City data ingestion interface
  • 1+ years experience with Esri’s ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
  • Experience with Python, SQL in an ArcGIS environment
  • Familiarity working with Esri REST Services and other APIs
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or other vector graphics software
  • Experience interpreting Canadian urban planning policy documents, regulations and concepts, especially in relation to housing development
  • Familiarity with ontological concepts and platforms (e.g. WebProtégé)
  • University degree in geography (GIS), urban planning or equivalent education and experience
Bonus points for this position:
  • Bilingual in French and English
