Job Summary

The Senior Superintendent - Roads is responsible for leading and optimizing the operational performance of the Roads group. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership to a team of superintendents across paving, base, concrete, and utilities. With a strong emphasis on safety, quality, innovation, and client satisfaction, the Senior Superintendent - Roads ensures that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with company values and industry best practices.

Main Responsibilities

• Champion and exemplify the company’s Goal Zero safety culture.
• Develop, coordinate, and communicate weekly and long-term work schedules.
• Lead weekly planning meetings to align project timelines and resources.
• Monitor project schedules to ensure alignment with operational priorities.
• Optimize use of labor, equipment, and materials for efficient project delivery.
• Proactively identify and resolve project-related issues (e.g., weather delays, labor challenges, quality concerns).
• Ensure projects are executed in compliance with design, budget, and schedule.
• Attend and represent the company at client and contractor site meetings.
• Support succession planning within the Roads operations team.
• Collaborate with the General Manager to drive innovation and departmental growth.
• Provide operational updates including staffing and equipment needs.
• Foster a positive team environment through coaching, mentoring, and continuous feedback.
• Collaborate with estimators on tender reviews to ensure competitiveness and feasibility.
• Drive new business strategies to position the company as a leader in transportation infrastructure.
• Promote and embody the company’s core values: Caring, Sharing, and Daring.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in road construction (paving, concrete, base, utilities).
• Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, PMP, or related field is an asset.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Technical Competencies
• Strong multitasking and deadline management skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite
• Familiarity with systems such as JDE, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, FleetWatcher.
• Understanding of project specifications and ability to interpret blueprints.

Soft Skills
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Effective time management and organization.
• Collaborative team leadership.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
