Position Summary

The Finance Manager will play a critical role in the success of the Institute and in managing the financial department. Reporting to the Director of Finance, responsibilities include managing, controlling, planning, and organizing financial policies and systems, making data-driven decisions, overseeing large projects and budgets, and contributing to succession planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, monitor, and manage budgets for all program/project-based funding agreements.
  • Liaise with Directors and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
  • Implement control mechanisms such as policies and procedures for financial processes.
  • Create financial reports, variance reports, and develop long-term budgets under the guidance of the Director of Finance.
  • Collect and analyze financial data.
  • Provide input on how financial decisions impact the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and ethics.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • Assist auditors with financial statements.
  • Administer accounts payable and receivable accurately and timely.
  • Prepare financial reports for stakeholders.
  • Supervise finance staff.
Other Duties
  • Increase cultural awareness and integration of Indigenous teachings.
  • Utilize Elders and Knowledge holders for guidance.
  • Adhere to organizational policies and maintain professionalism.
  • Attend work regularly and conduct oneself according to policies.
Supervisory Role

Supervise 2-5 staff members.

Required Competencies and Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions.
  • Experience with GAAP, financial analysis, budgeting, and planning.
  • Proficiency with Ellucian/Colleague software.
  • University degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • CPA membership.
