Estimator- Greater Sudbury

The Estimator role involves preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of construction, transportation, and heavy equipment projects, with a focus on mining and industrial operations. The Estimator will evaluate tender documents, perform risk assessments, and develop pricing strategies to secure successful project bids. Reporting directly to the Construction Management Team and Ownership, the Estimator plays a vital role in driving our company’s growth and success

Duties Include But Not Limited To
  • Analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for construction, transportation, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Preparing and submitting tender documents, proposals, and bid packages in alignment with company standards and client requirements.
  • Conducting risk analysis and developing contingency plans.
  • Evaluating logistical requirements, including transportation of materials, equipment, and resources to remote or active job sites.
  • Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and transportation management to ensure accurate pricing and resource allocation.
  • Reviewing and analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing and compliance with project specifications.
  • Monitoring and updating cost of materials, heavy equipment, rentals, fuel, and labor to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Attending project start‑up meetings, site visits, and progress reviews to refine estimating accuracy and apply lessons learned.
  • Supporting the project team with detailed handover documentation and ongoing budget adjustments post‑award.
  • Continuous monitoring of potential projects/opportunities within the corporate areas of operation.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Completion of a post‑secondary diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a senior estimating role, preferably in the industrial/mining, heavy equipment, or transportation sectors.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Office Suite, Project Scheduling software.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and logistics, particularly related to construction, heavy equipment and transportation operations.
  • Experience working with heavy equipment mobilization, operation, and maintenance is an asset.
Knowledge And Skills Requirements
  • Superior analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong understanding of heavy equipment costs, fuel consumption, and operational requirements.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to evaluate transportation logistics and equipment mobilization in cost planning.
  • Familiarity with local construction and mining industry standards, regulations, and permitting.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
