Overview

Mission for this Position

Responsibilities
  1. Conducting field monitoring and sampling programs as required under existing permits, licenses, and the company's Environmental Management System (including surface, lake and ground water, effluent, soil and dustfall sampling)
  2. Conducting internal due diligence compliance inspections of various site facilities and operational activities
  3. Participating/ assisting with environmental baseline studies, fish habitat monitoring, erosion and sediment control measures, and active migratory bird nest surveys
  4. Assisting with spill prevention and spill response and filling out pertinent forms related to environmental spills and incidents and follow-up
  5. Operation of basic hand tools, boat motors and snow mobiles as trained to do so, and will be expected to troubleshoot through equipment if it is non-operational
  6. Calibrating, installing and maintaining sampling and monitoring equipment
  7. Conducting field and in-house lab analyses of field samples using on-site portable analyzers and meters
  8. Use EQuIS software for field data collection, creation of chain of custodies, processing, packing, and preparing samples for shipment
  9. Entering and managing collected field and laboratory data into the environmental database
  10. Regularly updating, filing, and managing environmental documentation and maintaining detailed and comprehensive field notes
  11. Assisting process and environmental engineers with specific tasks relating to wastewater treatment activities
  12. Mentoring contractual summer environment technicians under the Company’s Environmental Management System
  13. Performing the role of Environmental Coordinator if required

Qualifications
  • College diploma/ University degree in environmental monitoring, environmental sciences, biology or other environmental related field is required
  • Valid Provincial or Territorial driver’s license is required
  • Fire Arms Certificate (FAC) or Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) is an asset
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is an asset
  • 1-3 years of experience in the construction, mining or oil and gas industry under the environmental discipline
  • Training or experience with water and effluent monitoring, water and soil sampling, field level analytical techniques
  • Experience operating outboard motors, boats, snowmobiles, GPS and water sampling equipment
  • Northern/ Arctic experience, experience working in inclement weather for extended durations
