In this role, you’ll support compliance, lead monitoring and reporting activities, and help strengthen our ISO 14001-aligned Environmental Management System (EMS).

This position is 70% office-based and 30% fieldwork, with a focus on wastewater systems, landfill operations, and legacy contaminated sites. You’ll work closely with operations leaders, consultants, municipalities, and the MECP to ensure our sites meet and exceed regulatory standards.

If you’re a strong communicator who can work independently, balance multiple priorities, and represent the company with professionalism, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your career in environmental management and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure environmental compliance across multiple sites in the Niagara Region.
  • Lead sampling, monitoring, and reporting aligned with environmental permit requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance our ISO 14001-aligned Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Liaise with MECP, municipalities, consultants, and other stakeholders on regulatory submissions.
  • Support development of the annual BMI Sustainability Report.
  • Create and maintain environmental SOPs, policies, and training programs.
  • Track, coordinate, and document training across multiple sites.
  • Partner with operations to implement environmental best practices.
  • Manage purchase orders, budgets, and invoice validation for environmental programs.
  • Provide after-hours support for spill/emergency response (as required).
  • Represent The BMI Group with professionalism and confidence.
What You Bring
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in environmental coordination, consulting, or regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of Ontario and federal environmental legislation.
  • Experience with or interest in ISO 14001 and EMS development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Solid organizational skills, with the ability to oversee responsibilities across multiple sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Full G licence; travel within Ontario required (occasional U.S./Canada-wide travel).
  • Ability to travel internationally.
Work Environment
  • Based in our Thorold, ON office (in-person role).
  • Fieldwork in industrial and construction settings; adherence to safety protocols required.
  • Exposure to changing weather during site visits; ability to walk/stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
What We Offer
  • Dedicated workspace and company-issued laptop.
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance.
