Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or within one year of graduation in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous engineering experience is considered an asset.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and provide field technical support for piping emergencies.
  • Conduct piping static analysis and finite element analysis.
  • Generate construction work packages for engineering tasks.
  • Collaborate with engineers to complete assessments and engineering projects.
  • Create and maintain data sheets for Specialty Piping items.
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines to support daily operations.
  • Resolve technical issues through RFIs and timely communication.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Horizon Oil Sands Site
  • Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off, 10 hours/day (Monday – Thursday)
  • Term length: 12 Months
  • Term starts: January or May 2026
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes
Key Accountabilities
  • Perform inspections and provide field technical support directly to operation for emergency failure of a piping, leakage situation, pipe strain, pipe overstress and troubleshoot piping problems
  • Perform piping static analysis using CAESER II for new design, existing design and modification of existing design for B31.3, B31.1, ASME SEC VIII, API 610 piping and perform finite eliminate analysis for piping and connecting equipment using FE pipe, Nozzle Pro
  • Generate construction work packages (CWP) for engineering work orders and sustaining capital WO’s from scoping to completion includes field visit, work scheduling, MOC process, support drafting, PID mark‑up, generating /reviewing piping isometric/ layout/ plan/ bill of materials (BOM), LDT, Stress analysis based on Canadian Natural standards and National and International codes and standards including ASME, ANSI, API and more specifically ABSA requirements
  • Collaborate and work with team of engineers and designers to complete scoping, asset integrity assessments, as built documentation, feasibilities studies, and detail engineering of turnaround and sustaining capital projects
  • Create, specify and maintain data sheets for Specialty Piping (SP) items, such that the items can be purchased
  • Take ownership of all matters related to piping, support structures, stress analysis and testing requirements and liaise regularly with other engineering disciplines: Process, Instruments, Electrical and Static Equipment
  • Provide support to Maintenance (Planning, Procurement, and Execution and Fabrication team) for day‑to‑day query, for troubleshooting in order to maintain steady production
  • Resolve issues through RFI’s and emails in time
What You Bring to The Role
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or within one year of graduation
  • Previous engineering experience is considered an asset
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract and comfortable driving work trucks in a safe manner
