The opportunity

Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Engineering Student to join our team for the May – August Season. Reporting to the Manager - Engineering, this exciting opportunity assists in providing technical support to the County’s gravel roads program, transportation, water distribution, sanitary sewer, and land drainage operations. As a member of the Engineering team, the Engineering Student contributes to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do
  • Assist with preparing technical analysis for the road (gravel and surfaced), bridges, and water and wastewater systems projects.
  • Assist with preparing technical reports for the engineering department.
  • Provide site inspections, quantity calculations, and quality control for municipal construction and land development projects.
  • Perform traffic count for the annual traffic monitoring program.
  • Perform field surveys.
  • Adhere to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
  • Perform related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must-have

Must be enrolled in a civil engineering program, completed a minimum of one year of coursework, and a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Nice to have

Experience in the operation and maintenance of municipal water, wastewater, and solid waste infrastructure and working with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS) is considered an asset.

Experience in road construction (gravel and surfaced), bridges, culverts, water and wastewater systems and familiarity with municipal operations, and knowledge of rural communities are assets.

What’s in it for you

We offer a competitive hourly salary of between $22.65 - $28.31. This opportunity is seasonal full time and is 35 hours per week scheduled Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with the possibility of some extended hours to meet operational requirements. The office is located at 101-1101 5 St. Nisku, AB.
