What You'll Do

As part of this boutique industrial energy management and decarbonization consulting firm, you will:

  • Conduct industrial energy efficiency calculations that drive measurable impact.
  • Build GHG inventories (Scopes 1, 2, 3) and deliver projects that move the carbon needle.
  • Turn data into influence—create client-ready reports and boardroom presentations that win decisions.
  • Research and recommend cutting-edge decarbonization technologies and strategies.
  • Help grow the business by shaping proposals for major industrial projects with senior team mentorship.
  • Stay on top of ESG, climate policy, and incentive programs—and help clients act on them.
  • Represent Thorn Associates at industry conferences and thought-leadership events.
What Our Client Is Looking For

You’re not just an engineer—you’re a builder of solutions with curiosity and drive.

Must-Have Skills
  • A university accredited Engineering degree (Industrial, Electrical, Process/Chemical, or Mining).
  • 2–4 years Canadian work experience, including at least one (1) year in scope 1 & 2 GHG accounting / carbon footprinting.
  • Advanced Excel and strong PowerPoint skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving, mostly remote environment.
  • Strong ability to work independently and effectively and be self-directed in a remote workspace.
  • A sense of urgency coupled with a proven track record of on-time delivery for important tasks and projects.
  • Ability to create well written proposals in English and communicate technical concepts clearly to clients.
  • Strong communicator—can simplify technical complexity for execs.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit - resourceful, adaptable, deadline-driven.
  • Interest and ability to succeed in a small, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt.
  • Ability to travel occasionally with ease to client sites.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license, legally already allowed to work in Canada, and Canadian work experience.
Extra Points For
  • A university Master’s degree in sustainability or related field.
  • Industry experience in mining, heavy industry, renewables, or energy efficiency.
  • Python / programming and data science skills.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14064/CSDS standards, scope 3 GHG accounting or climate risk analysis.
  • Oral and written fluency in French and / or Spanish.
  • Experience in start-up/scale-up environments.
