Help Autistic Adults Build Meaningful Careers

Autism Nova Scotia is seeking a part-time Employment Coach to support the EmploymentWorks program — a pre-employment initiative designed to help Autistic adults explore career pathways through structured learning and on-site work experiences. You will work directly with program participants during weekend work placements, providing individualized coaching and helping participants identify their strengths, navigate workplace expectations, and build independence. You’ll also collaborate with program staff and employers to ensure safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environments.

About the Role

As an Employment Coach, you will work one-on-one with Autistic participants during their scheduled work experience shifts — primarily on Saturdays. You’ll help participants set and reach employment goals, advocate for accommodations where needed, and support their transition toward workplace independence. This is a hands-on, community-based role that requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusion.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver in-person one-to-one coaching during weekend work experience shifts (Saturdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.).
  • Identify participant needs and support the implementation of individualized accommodations, with guidance from Program Educators.
  • Support participants in working toward independence and confidence in workplace settings.
  • Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with participants and program staff.
  • Act as a liaison between participants, program staff, and employer partners.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace environment.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to ongoing program adaptation and improvement.
  • Documentation & Administration: Monitor participant progress and share relevant updates with Program Educators; complete documentation and participate in regular team check-ins.
What We Offer
  • Hourly Salary of $21.50
  • Access to our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) for 24/7 confidential support
  • Opportunities for ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development
  • A collaborative, values-driven team culture focused on inclusion and innovation
