The Electrical Field Service Technician is expected to perform service, testing and maintenance of various types of power and transmission distribution equipment, as well as conducting thermal imaging inspections.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, perform start-up and collect data of low and medium electrical systems.
- MCC’s, Breakers and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
Test and calibrate electro-mechanical and solid-state relay. - Low and Medium voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
- Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers and all related equipment up to 5 MVA, both dry type and oil filled.
- Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – low voltage 480 – 600 volt (insulated case and air-magnetic). May be in our shop facility (if applicable) or at the Customer site.
- Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – medium voltage up to 25 KV (air-magnetic, SF6 and vacuum). May be in our shop facility (if applicable) or at the Customer site.
- Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
- Perform start-up, troubleshooting and repair services on generator controls and transfer schemes.
- Use thermal imaging cameras and be able to interpret thermal data effectively.
- Install and replace metering or relaying systems and test and document results.
- Perform CSA Z32 testing in patient care environments.
- FSR-A (Field Safety Representative -A) with significant medium or high voltage experience is considered a strong skills asset.
- Annual Electrical Operating Permit site inspections and reports.
- All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws. Candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
- This position requires a flexible schedule, including overnights and weekends. Candidate must have an availability of at least 1–2 overnight shifts per week, as well as weekend work, when needed. Willingness and ability to respond to emergency calls is a technicians shared requirement.

Required Experience and Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Applied Science and Technology (AScT) with the Power option, and some related work experience.Alternately, a certified Red Seal electrician with service experience.
- Able to join the local IBEW through the company as this will be a union position
- Knowledge of various industry standards such as: Industry safety standards.
- Prefer person experienced with most of the following: MCC’s, Circuit breakers, Transformers, Overcurrent relays, Transformer oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start-up commissioning and maintenance on switchgear through 25kV class.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Good theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
- Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
- Strong customer service and time management skills.
- Work effectively with customers, peers and management to resolve client issues.
- Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office- use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research
- Candidate will be required to have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Additional Information
Travel
Up to 10% travel.Majority of work is located within the Lower Mainland; availability for infrequent out of town work is considered a strong asset.
Compensation
$42.40/hour
Physical Demands
Lifting a maximum of 50lbs on a daily basis, standing for long periods of time, and working in difficult and awkward conditions such as outdoors, high heat or low light areas.
