Job summary

A leading energy infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician to join our team in Pembroke, Ontario. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining natural gas compression systems, performing regular maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Ideal candidates have a trades program completion and experience with mechanical equipment. This role includes a competitive schedule and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a trades program or technical training from a recognized institution is required.
  • Experience interpreting technical reference documents and reading engineering drawings.
  • Proven safe driving record with a valid driver's license.

The Opportunity

Our Rideau Area Operations Team is currently seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Technician to join our team based at our compressor station in Pembroke or Stittsville, ON.

Reporting to the Rideau Operations Area Manager, this EIC Controls Technician will operate and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment (including assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, boilers, fuel gas compressors, and PLC & DCS control systems) in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will also be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.

The regular work schedule for this position will be:

  • Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off
  • Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday
What you’ll do
  • Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system as required
  • Conduct routine regular maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and Over Pressure Protection devices, control valves, PLC’s & control systems
  • Install & configure software in control systems
  • Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs
  • Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TC Energy's Community, Safety and Environment policies and procedures as well as accepted risk standards
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low to medium complexity projects with effective work management practices such as time management, work sequencing, and contractor oversight
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, P&IDs, etc.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Complete core operational task qualifications required to perform job tasks
  • Supervise and coordinate third party contractors
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to other personnel
  • Demonstrate safety leadership
  • Collaborate and support our business partners as required
  • Respond to emergency situations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion or anticipated completion (May 2026) of a trades program or technical training from a recognized institution (i.e. Electrical, Instrumentation, etc.)
  • Experience interpreting technical reference documents and reading drawings
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must have a proven safe driving record and provide documentation of past traffic violations upon request, as well as maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 or more years of experience troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, installing, repairing, and operating mechanical equipment such as compressors, auxiliary engines, cooling equipment, valves, pumps, fittings, scrubbers, filters, electric motors, etc.
  • SAP experience
  • Previous experience with high pressure natural gas
  • Current with technological advances in the compression field

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home (estimated up 15% of work schedule)
  • Be part of an on-call rotation and provide emergency support as required
