Location: Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 5M3 (On site)

Salary: $21.00 to $35.00 per hour (Negotiable), 40 hours per week

Employment type: Permanent, Full time (Day shift)

Responsibilities
  • Assess children’s development and prepare learning plans tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Develop and implement child‑care programs supporting physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
  • Lead activities with storytelling, songs and visits to local points of interest.
  • Order supplies and equipment, and arrange rooms & furniture for lunch and rest periods.
  • Encourage creativity through art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
  • Guide children in proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Observe for potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisors.
  • Submit written observations to early childhood educators or supervisors.
  • Establish behaviour guidelines and maintain collaborative relationships with co‑workers and community service providers.
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects health, security and well‑being of children.
  • Organise activities for school‑age children before and after regular school hours.
Qualifications
  • College, CEGEP or other non‑university certificate/diploma of 3 months to < 1 year, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year to < 2 years of experience in early childhood education.
  • Certificates: Child Development Assistant (ECE level 1), Supervisor (ECE level 3), Worker (ECE level 2), Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR, Early Childhood Education Certificate, First Aid Certificate.
  • Basic security clearance, criminal record check, immunisation records, tuberculosis test, vulnerable sector check.
  • Skills: punctuality, dependability, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral & written communication, flexibility, judgement, reliability, teamwork, ethics, creativity, honesty, multi‑tasking.
