Job Summary

The Early Childhood Education Instructor is responsible for delivering in-class theory instruction, practical course work for the Early Childhood Diploma program.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, assignments and assessments according to an approved curriculum and Indigenous community context
  • Curriculum delivery in an engaging and participatory manner, and with community development focus
  • Teach students through lectures, open discussions, audio-video presentations as needed; prepare resources for classroom discussion when necessary
  • Research information to ensure curriculum is current
  • Identify the needs of individual students, and work to help each student develop his or her potential
  • Meet with students to discuss and provide feedback with regard to their work
  • Provide students with various evaluation opportunities for success
  • Identify emotional, intellectual, physical, and/or any other issues that may be hindering the student from learning to their best potential, and recommend appropriate course of action
  • Participate and monitor college and program activities
  • Monitoring and reviewing students during practicum placements
  • Present a professional and caring demeanor at all times towards students and staff
REQUIREMENTS
  • Post secondary credentials from a recognized institution in Early Childhood Education – minimum ECE III
  • Adult teaching credentials and/or experience in a teaching or training capacity in adult education
  • Several years experience in a variety of early learning and childcare settings
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture within Indigenous Adult Learning environments
  • Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction, including ongoing professional development and continuous improvement
  • Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of students, to provide feedback and treat students equitably within the context of the Indigenous community
  • Experience working with adult learners (18+ years and older)
  • Demonstrate ability for innovative curriculum delivery
  • Ability to provide effective experiential learning
