What is the opportunity?

As the Director, Risk Assessment Modernization, you will lead the modernization and automation of RBC’s technology risk assessment framework, beginning with Application Control Assessments (ACA) as the foundation platform, and progressively extending to Infrastructure Control Assessments (ICA), and Cloud risk assessment programs.

You will define and deliver the target state operating model for technology risk assessments, integrating new digital capabilities and automation. This transformation will strengthen consistency, transparency and efficiency across RBC’s global assurance processes, enabling data-driven insights that support regulatory and business expectations.

This role partners closely with senior leaders across Global Security, Technology & Operations and Risk teams to align strategic direction, drive adoption and deliver measurable improvements in assessment quality and process efficiency.

What will you do?
  • Lead the modernization of risk assessment programs establishing Application Control Assessments (ACA) as the foundation and extending to ICA and cloud risk assessments under a unified, automated framework
  • Design and execute target-state operating model for control assessments, aligning processes and documentation with enterprise risk standards
  • Drive automation and data enablement, collaborating with internal partners to embed digital tooling, reporting and workflow orchestration
  • Establish governance and performance measures, ensuring transparency, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in risk assessment outcomes
  • Champion organizational change, leading adoption, communication, and capability uplift across the enterprise
  • Engage senior stakeholders across Global Security, Technology and Risk to ensure alignment and endorsement of transformation priorities
  • Lead a high-performing team responsible for roadmap execution, process design and delivery of the transformed operating model
What do you need to succeed? Must-have
  • 10+ years in technology risk management, control assurance or IT audit within a large financial institution
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale transformation and automation initiatives, from concept through to implementation and adoption
  • Strong understanding of technology risk and control concepts, with the ability to translate control standards into practical, automated assessment processes
  • Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to build alignment and drive outcomes across technology, risk and business partners
  • Strong strategic, analytical and communication skills, with a track record of presenting complex topics to executive audiences
Nice-to-have
  • Prior consulting and/or strategy experience, ideally in transformation, risk or cyber assurance programs
  • Experience with automation platforms, data analytics, or workflow orchestration tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Archer)
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CRISC, CISA, CISM, CISSP)
