Director Retail Sports Product & Operations

We are ready to take this game to the next level and need someone passionate to oversee the development and implementation of strategic annual marketing plans to ensure customer success and deliver budgeted Net Profit to the Province (NPP) of Ontario. The role will oversee design, development and marketing across Retail and Bricks and Mortar Sports while following enterprise brand guidelines within the division to deliver annual revenue/player participation outcomes and desired customer experience. This role also oversees Retail Sports Operations, which develops and drives the Retail Sports product vision and strategy (specifically events, markets, and features).

YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME

Reporting to the VP Lottery Product, you will be empowered to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the annual Retail Sports marketing plan – such as vision, mission, strategies and financial objectives including new product initiatives and growth opportunities – to drive increased player participation, consumer and retailer satisfaction in a manner that contributes towards corporate objectives. Track progress and performance management for key initiatives.
  • Provide direction to and monitor the performance of the team’s responsibilities and operations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the sports category; ensure risk management, oversee trading strategies, and forecast day to day business performance
  • Deliver annual budgeted revenue and NPP for the Retail Sports Category.
  • Develop and manage all variable expenses for the category including leading the development of the marketing budget to meet divisional objectives (including non-working, working, promotional and partnership budgets)
  • Oversee the development and execution of the annual Retail Sports strategy by setting objectives, defining marketing requirements (advertising, promotion, education, engagement, merchandising, new product development, etc.), trading strategies (300,000+ retail events and 820+ markets), and directing all related brand activities to achieve brand contribution objectives
  • Assist and provide expertise in the development of the Retail Sports annual roadmap, collaborating closely with the Senior Sports Managers and the Digital sports team to deliver competitive and consumer focused products. Serve as key Retail sports business lead on all Retail sports projects and initiatives including lottery strategy, hospitality, sports lounges, product launches, enhancements, and system improvements
  • Due to the nature of the role, close collaboration with the Digital Sports Director and Digital Player Development & Engagement teams is crucial to success. There is collaboration on all key marketing initiatives, fiscal media plans, promotional plans, etc. This role plays the lead for the Retail side of the business.
  • Oversee Sports Operations function, ensuring successful planning and product management of Retail Sports including events, markets, and features.
  • In collaboration with Digital Sports, provide direction on the research and development of a solid and in-depth understanding of consumers to identify growth strategies and evaluate specific market opportunities
  • Monitor and scan the sport lottery landscape across North America and the globe to engage thought leaders for new products, initiatives, and related technologies for assessment and introduction to the Ontario marketplace
  • Serve as member of the ILC sport working group on the planning and development of sports initiatives with other Canadian jurisdictions through collaboration on consumer research, product development, marketing and related activities
  • Build, manage, retain and develop a highly talented and commercially focused team to meet the business objectives of the category
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE GAME

Education & Experience:

  • University degree in Business, Management, Marketing or a related field
  • 10+ years of marketing management and operational environment
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in achieving business goals and improvement
  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability in collaborating across the enterprise on complex and challenging problems
  • Demonstrated experience in developing business strategy, applying marketing principles and management skills at a corporate level
  • Demonstrated experience in brand and/or marketing management of consumer goods and/or service industry

  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a multi-disciplined environment including technology, new product development, product design, promotion, merchandising, advertising, public relations and market research as well as in-depth knowledge of sales and retail channels
