We’re looking for a Director of Operations to lead our McNairn Packaging manufacturing facility in Whitby, Ontario where we manufacture a broad range of food packaging products for the food service, supermarket, bakery and food processing markets. Senior Operations Leader for manufacturing leadership driving positive results with safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement. The Director of Operations is responsible for motivating and supporting employees to create a profitable manufacturing operation that aligns with the overall business and strategic goals for ACR. How you will make an impact
- Spend a significant amount of their time on the production floor coaching supervisors, team leaders, ensuring the plant is operating correctly within all goals of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
- Plan for the next day, week and month in Production, R&D Runs, reviewing plant KPI’s, coaching, problem solving tools, utilizing plant CI Teams, works with counterparts on plant activities/projects, holds daily communication meetings with the plant management team.
- Ensure that the responsibilities and accountability of all subordinates are defined and understood. Establish goals or objectives for each member, monitor progress and provide necessary coaching and training to enable them to meet those goals.
- Emphasize teamwork so all employees understand the importance of assisting each other in areas demonstrating a whatever it takes to get the job done rather than that’s not my job attitude.
- Respond appropriately to oral and written communications. Consistently provide ideas, opinions, or information in a professional way. Actively listen to others and demonstrate understanding of other point of view.
- Responsible for completing Production Line change as required due to changes in the sales forecast and production schedule.
- Supports all Continuous Improvement Processes in the Plant as required.
- Responsible for maintaining acceptable GMP conditions in all the work areas in the plant.
- Plan, organize and direct the manufacturing and maintenance operations which ensure the most effective return on assets.
- Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while insuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations.
- Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the facility supports RWP strategic initiatives.
- Effectively communicate with all members of the organization in a clear and respectful manner.
- Prepare and develop, for the annual operating budget, all related departmental expenses. Ensure that compliance to these targets is met per approved budget.
- Participate in the Sales Operation Planning Process monthly
- Will make recommendations to the CEO on capital equipment needs, staff development and overall facility improvements
- Responsible for Leading the Plant in a Continuous Improvement Environment through Coaching, Teaching, Mentoring and by examples daily.
Requirements
What you need to be successful in this role:
- 7+ years of experience in progressive leadership roles within Manufacturing environment required (high-speed manufacturing experience preferred)
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements for manufacturing food customers
- Paper and/or paper bag manufacturing experience a plus
- Experience leading through change with an ability to coach and mentor employees while implementing Lean Manufacturing Tools
- Ability to create a positive environment where two-way communications and a strong sense of trust is established with coworkers and direct reports
- Proficiency within Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and general computer usage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge on developing the Annual Business Plan and Annual Budgets, and designing the Capital Plan for the Manufacturing Operations
- Experience with planning and executing Plant Processes such as continuous improvement activities, skill building and leadership development, planning future state, etc.
- Working knowledge of Sales Operation Planning Process
- Ability to work with Demand Planner, Customer Service, Plant Scheduling, and Purchasing on Sales forecast; schedule forecast and actual order
- Ability to coach plan staff on alternative production scenarios based on known production constraints
- Knowledge in assessing Capacity and Product Line Balancing
- Understanding of and active practice of Lean concepts and methodology
