Job Details

Schlegel Villages' Support Office located in Kitchener, Ontario has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Health and Safety to join their team. Supported by the Sr. Director of Labour Relations, this Village-facing role will work closely with our leaders providing support and guidance.

  • Status: Permanent Full Time
  • Location: Support Office Kitchener/Hybrid
  • Position Type: Current Vacancy
  • Expected Start Date: Early 2026

The expected hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000. This role falls within a broader internal salary band, with growth opportunities based on demonstrated performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s Health & Safety Program
  • Maintain and update the organization’s health & safety policies and procedures to reflect regulations and current best practices
  • Provide guidance and direct support to leaders and Village Joint Health and Safety Committees on health & safety matters
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or conduct health & safety training
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations, prepare reports, and make recommendations for corrective actions and/or support leaders to complete incident investigations
  • Conduct regular visits to Villages to ensure consistent application of policies, identify risks, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Track data from MLITSD Field Visits, analyze trends, identify systemic issues, present recommendations, and drive proactive solutions
  • Assist Villages to respond to compliance orders from MLITSD
  • Liaise with Health & Safety professionals in the sector
  • Promote a culture of safety, learning, and continuous quality improvement at all levels
Qualifications
  • Proven knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is an asset and may be complemented by experience in Occupational Health & Safety, preferably in senior living, or a complex organizational environment
  • Proactive and solution-focused with the ability to balance compliance requirements and organization-level strategy with hands-on Village support and operational realities
  • Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities at unique Villages
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills to engage and influence partners across all levels
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing projects, driving change, and fostering organizational alignment
Travel Requirements

This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site and/or weekly travel to our Villages
