About Our Client:

Our client is a Canadian, family-owned frozen food manufacturing company.

Position Scope:

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an experienced Finance Manager ready to step into a Director-level position. The Director of Finance will be responsible for executing the company’s financial strategy, ensuring profitability, and maintaining compliance. This role includes direct involvement in operations and requires a balance of strategic oversight and day-to-day financial management.

Reporting to the Vice President/General Manager, the Director will oversee all accounting and finance functions, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and ERP systems. The role also includes managing a small team: Cost Accountant, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and Payroll.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee financial strategy and long-term plans
  • Direct the accumulation, recording, preparation, and reporting of financial data
  • Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements and related reports in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage all budget process activities; forecast all company operational and financial aspects
  • Provide specialized analyses in support of all business functions
  • Manage banking relationships, audits, and tax compliance
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial risk management
  • Set and review pricing models and profitability metrics
  • Guide ERP/financial systems strategy
  • Oversee finance-related resources, including cost accounting, AP/AR, and payroll
  • Supervise monthly balancing of books and monthly account reviews
  • Represent finance in leadership meetings and strategic decisions
  • Provide management with timely reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress
  • Lead or support change management initiatives related to financial systems, reporting processes, or organizational structure
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial and operational performance
  • Oversee inventory valuation and cost accounting processes to ensure accurate product costing and margin analysis
  • Support or lead financial aspects of sustainability and ESG reporting initiatives
  • Identify and develop high-potential talent within the finance team to support succession planning and organizational growth
  • Identify opportunities for automation and digital tools to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting
  • Experience in manufacturing or food production environments is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience managing financial operations and leading teams
  • Experience with ERP systems implementation or optimization
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration with operations, sales, and supply chain
  • Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships
  • Familiarity with cost accounting, inventory management, and margin analysis
