Southern Health‑Santé Sud is inviting applications for the position of Dietary Aide (Cook 1 or 2) located at the Vita & District Health Centre, Vita, Manitoba.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Nutrition & Food Services Coordinator or Supervisor, the Dietary Aide is responsible for the safe preparation, serving and distribution of nutritious meals to clients, staff and visitors. Duties include performing cashier functions, following sanitation and safety guidelines, and applying departmental, regional, provincial policies and regulations. The role requires independent judgment in setting work priorities and handling unusual matters in line with the mission, vision and values of Southern Health‑Santé Sud.

Experience
  • Six (6) months previous experience in food handling and/or healthcare food services.
Education, Certification & Registration
  • Minimum Grade 10 education.
  • Completion of a Dietary Aide certificate.
  • Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course. Willingness to obtain a Level 1 certificate within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Other suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English/French).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook/Email and online training.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic, texture‑modified and sanitary food handling principles.
  • Understanding of the Electronic Menu Management Information System (EMMIS) (required for sites using EMMIS).
  • Demonstrated competency in cash management.
  • Respect for and promotion of a culturally diverse population.
  • Confidentiality in paper, electronic and other formats.
  • Good work and attendance record.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • Ability to lift items up to 1‑5 kg (constant), 6‑11 kg (occasional) and 23 kg (rare). No hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as rotation dictates.
