Job description

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Diagnostic Vascular Technologist performs and assesses non-invasive diagnostic tests on the vascular system utilizing duplex ultrasound, continuous wave Doppler, and/or plethysmography equipment. The position involves preparing patients for testing, evaluating the accuracy of diagnoses, performing quality control duties, and participating in inter-disciplinary team meetings and local committees. The Technologist enters procedure data into the computerized system and provides instruction regarding procedures, equipment, and techniques to staff trainees, student technologists, and other staff as required.

Qualifications / Skills and Education

Education

Graduation from a recognized diagnostic vascular technologist program, plus one (1) year's recent related experience. Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for testing by reviewing requisitions, patient history, and explaining procedures
  • Perform non-invasive diagnostic tests such as ankle-brachial indexes, toe-brachial indexes, venous Doppler, and others, using appropriate equipment
  • Assess and record test results, submit findings to physicians, and assist in reporting and authorization
  • Evaluate diagnostic accuracy through correlation exercises and discussions with medical personnel
  • Respond to information requests from the medical community, seeking guidance when necessary
  • Conduct quality control by scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and coordinating repairs
  • Participate in team meetings, provide input, and collaborate with multidisciplinary staff
  • Input and update patient and procedural data in the computerized system
  • Stay current with developments in vascular technology through literature review and professional development
  • Provide instruction to staff trainees and students as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
