Lead interface between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center, primarily responsible for managing system interactions and interfaces between components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.
Design Systems / Applications Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer for multiple programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- EDM Gearbox hardware system responsibility (integration and system balancing of all EDM gearbox components)
- Interfacing with Design Release Engineers and COEs
- Manufacturing
- Development Validation Center
- Schedule hardware system design reviews across PRC and review DRE design proposals as required
- Organize reviews with Virtual Analysis / CAE team and ensure Virtual DVP / Scorecard completion prior to prototype hardware orders
- Manage Driveline System and Interface DFMEA / DRBFM reviews for transparency and cohesive Design Controls leading to Robust DVP Actions
- Support CE & ACE in developing FTE and ER&D / ED&D Cost Roll-ups for Minor / MCA / New Programs
- Review and approve change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned
- Lead Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) / Value Optimization (VO) efforts, collaborating closely with PRC, DVC, and VO teams
- Represent CE in managing lessons learned documentation and ensure timely updates to TS and E-BPs
- Review driveline system and component validation statuses with DVC and provide updates to CE
- Coordinate DRBTR reviews and manage follow-up items and GIMS issuance for issues
- Manage CQI and GIMS cross-functional teams, creating priorities, action plans, tracking progress, and updating initiatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 0-3 years engineering experience
- Knowledge of EDM Gearboxes, Drivelines, Axles, or Transmission Systems and interface requirements
- Excellent communication skills, including presenting complex material
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and troubleshoot
- Self-motivated and organized
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, or powertrain systems
- Experience with Gearbox, Driveline, or Axle Design Release
- Master's in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Leadership experience in small teams
- Knowledge of powertrain duty cycle analysis and development processes
- Experience with functional analysis tools (DFMEA, DVP&R)
- Green/Black Belt in Shainin or DFSS is desirable
- Experience with electric motors for automotive applications
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- System-level thinking
- Excellent presentation skills
Additional Must Haves:
- Ability to work at ARDC site as needed, including short notice visits
- Transportation to meet site requirements
- Hybrid work capability (3-5 days/week at ARDC)
- Occasional driving to Detroit/Auburn Hills for meetings/training
