Wire Harness Design and Release Engineer
The Wire Harness Design and Release Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, validation, and release of wiring harness assemblies and associated components for vehicle electrical systems. This role ensures that all design documentation aligns with master models and supports cross-functional activities throughout the product lifecycle—from concept through launch and post-production support. The engineer will collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and quality stakeholders to drive robust design execution, change management, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and assist in the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings for wiring harness assemblies.
- Ensure part drawings and documentation match master models (Model is Master).
- Author and validate CCDs, CNs, IAAs, and PERs to meet all engineering and release requirements.
- Confirm and justify the necessity of design changes for vehicle programs.
- Conduct First Piece Sign-Off (FPSO) and support PSO activities in collaboration with Supplier Quality (SQ).
- Own and manage GIMs entries, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support launch activities at the assembly plant, ensuring readiness and issue resolution.
- Contribute to vehicle/component DFMEA, DVP (with CC validation), FO, and Design Rule compliance.
- Review and validate supplier DFMEA and DVP submissions.
- Actively participate in ACE packaging meetings and scroll reviews.
- Maintain and update PDP documentation and FASTCAR records.
- Support complexity chart development (PASD) and compliance reporting.
- Provide input for owner’s manual imagery and documentation.
- Drive standardization and harmonization of components and engineering documents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline (Materials, Chemical, Civil, Aerospace, Computer) from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation wiring design, release, or vehicle electrical systems.
- At least 5 years of overall engineering experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create and present high-quality reports and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Formal training in DFMEA, DVP&R, and DFSS methodologies.
- Working knowledge of CAD systems such as NX and Catia.
- Experience with Capital XC for 2D wiring design.
- Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing and wiring harness production environments.
- Understanding of automotive wiring harness drawings and specifications.
- Experience with SharePoint or similar web-based data management platforms.
- Experience leading and assisting in the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings for wiring harness assemblies.
- Great communication skills in English.
- Willingness to be on-site and support plants/proving grounds/labs.
