Are you passionate about turning data into actionable insights? We’re looking for a Data Specialist to join our dynamic Data Governance and Quality team. In this role, you’ll report directly to the Head of Data Governance and Quality and play a key part in shaping the future of data at Equitable.

This Data Specialist will drive data analysis and uncover insights that power business decisions, lead process improvements and enhance tools to support our strategic goals and collaborate across teams to strengthen the foundation of our Insights and Impact organization.

Work Arrangements:

This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement, and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

What you’ll do:
  • Participate in data initiatives in performing data analysis to uncover insights and support business decisions.
  • Testing and validating data to ensure accuracy and reliability for critical projects.
  • Identifying process improvements and driving tools maintenance and enhancements within the data governance space. (Data Quality, data access, data issue and change management, metadata)
  • Defining KPIs and building Power BI dashboards to measure success and enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Supporting the implementation and adherence of data governance practices across the organization.
  • Create data artifacts and documentation
What you’ll bring:
  • 3+ years of experience in similar role
  • 2+ years of experience on SQL, and relational databases
  • 2+ years of experience with Advanced Excel for analyzing data
  • 2+ years of experience with programming/coding languages (Python, PySpark)
  • 2+ years of experience with or exposure to data quality and data governance practices
  • 2+ years of experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure technology and programming tools strongly preferred
  • Experience in Business Analysis preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and present complex / technical concepts simply.
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving approach; focus on bridging the gap between business and technical teams from a data perspective.
  • Experience in Insurance or Financial Services industry is an asset; specifically, familiarity with insurance-specific data models and operational/business processes, with experience in insurance core systems (e.g., policy administration, claims management) is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement; robust prioritization and organizational skills to remain focused on the key outcomes.
  • Experience with displaying complex data in a simple, intuitive format
