BMO’s Corporate Finance Division (CFD) is part of the Canadian Commercial Bank and is responsible for providing public and private corporate clients with advice-based financial solutions and best-in-class relationship management. The CFD team works holistically with companies to offer an integrated suite of financing structures, treasury and payment products, capital markets solutions, and advisory services. The analyst candidate will work on a deal team within CFD’s Diversified Industries (DI) group. DI comprises highly skilled professionals who work closely with clients across a range of industries to support their corporate and strategic financial objectives. Key responsibilities focus on supporting the underwriting process, with an emphasis on financial analysis and clear articulation of complex situations.
Responsibilities
- Analyze credit information to support lending decisions and processes for new and existing Commercial banking loans and credit solutions in an assigned portfolio of clients.
- Make credit decisions and recommendations in compliance with bank policies and procedures while maintaining excellent client service.
- Perform financial analysis and calculations, assess client creditworthiness, prepare detailed credit summaries, and analyze financial performance and risk profiles of clients within the portfolio.
- Utilize financial models and analytical tools to assess repayment capacity and recommend appropriate loan structures and collateral.
- Support credit-granting decisions by making recommendations to the manager.
- Support portfolio monitoring and compliance to identify deteriorating credit conditions and ensure compliance.
- Analyze metrics and industry trends to identify risks and opportunities.
- Assist in negotiating loan terms and structuring loans that align with client needs and bank risk policies.
- Develop proposals to capture new business and expand client relationships.
- Build and maintain client relationships to ensure long-term financial performance in collaboration with Relationship Manager and business partners.
- Structure and support new, renewal and extension loans aligned with client needs and risk policies.
- Conduct financial analysis and risk assessments of clients’ credit information for an assigned portfolio to provide insights and inform decisions.
- Monitor portfolio performance and take corrective action when required.
- Minimize risk exposure by adhering to credit policies, regulatory standards, and operational guidelines.
- Serve as a point of contact for service requests, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded and escalate issues as needed.
- Support and implement initiatives to enhance service quality, acquire new business and expand client relationships.
- Identify revenue and cross-selling opportunities to enhance portfolio growth and share of wallet opportunities.
- Leverage analysis tools to nurture and grow a portfolio that aligns with ROE targets and client returns.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry into BMO systems and use data to support decision-making.
Qualifications
- Preferred 3–4 years of relevant experience in credit or lending instruments or financial operations in a corporate or banking environment.
- If a Credit Qualifiable job, meet Credit Qualifications and associated credit knowledge and skills according to the portfolio requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Business Administration, Finance or Accounting preferred. Related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
