A leading fusion energy company in Richmond, BC, is seeking a Computational Plasma Physicist to develop commercial fusion power. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. and significant research experience in plasma physics. Responsibilities include conceiving research projects and collaborating with universities. The company offers flexible hours, generous vacation, and a comprehensive benefits package, all in a dynamic work environment.
Position: Computational Plasma Physicist
Location: Richmond, BC, Canada
General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.
Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype.
We invite applications from experienced plasma physicists, with experimental or theoretical specializations eager to contribute to General Fusion’s progress on Magnetized Target Fusion. Our reactor concept uses moving lithium walls to mechanically compress a toroidal plasma target formed by coaxial helicity injection. The stability, energy and impurity transport, and plasma material interactions are all active areas of study. A successful applicant should be able to conceive and deliver research projects which build rigorous justification for General Fusion’s technology and rapidly respond to practical engineering challenges. In doing this, the physicist should be able to build collaboration with external researchers at universities and national laboratories thereby strengthening the scientific justification for General Fusion’s approach.
General Fusion is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, or age.
