A municipal government is seeking a Community Services Assistant 2 to support education programs at the Museum of Surrey. The ideal candidate will assist with curriculum-based school programs and engage children through cultural and historical storytelling. Required qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and strong group management and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in community service work or equivalent training.
  • Valid BC driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Heritage and/or cultural programming experience.

SCOPE

Museum of Surrey is a cultural facility with a mission to ignite young imaginations and connect Surrey’s diverse population and communities through participation, engagement, and stories. We are looking for someone to assist with Education Programs who enjoys interacting with children and has a passion for sharing and teaching stories of culture and history. They will also assist in providing a variety of school programs related to current BC curriculum standards.

Strong group management, public speaking, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary for this position. A familiarity with the principles and practices of museum interpretation, program delivery and community development in an educational context, would be an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, and delivery of curriculum-based school programs.
  • Aid in promotion and evaluation of school programs.
  • Assist in research of curriculum-based topics as well as topics for summer camps.
  • Program setup and takedown such as the sorting, organizing, preparation and cleanup of program equipment and supplies.
  • Preparation of craft or activity templates and samples.
  • Assist to train volunteers in program delivery.
  • Attend outreach, such as offsite programming, partnership programming and education conferences.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by 1 year of experience in community service work or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Valid BC driver’s license with a safe driving history.
  • Access to a vehicle is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with children
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Heritage and/or cultural programming experience as well as public speaking is a strong asset.
Other Information
  • Pay Grade: Schedule D
  • Hourly Rate: $23.85 (2024 Rate)
