Job description
Co-Executive Director

8 hours/ weekly

1-3 years

Please apply via the Google Form that is linked at the bottom of this posting. WE WILL REJECT APPLICATIONS SENT DIRECTLY THROUGH VOLUNTEER CONNECTOR. This is a senior position. You may hold up to one senior position at a time. Preference is given to Alberta residents, defined as a legal adult who has a mailing address anywhere within the province. The Co-Executive Director will likely be asked to serve as a signing authority for Free Your Mind, interacting with legal or financial bodies based in Alberta. People who reside outside of Alberta are still welcome to apply, and all submissions will be considered on a holistic basis.

Role Description: We are recruiting one (1) Co-Executive Director to collaborate with our current Executive Director as the highest authority within Free Your Mind. The Co-Executive Directors will work together to facilitate cohesion across all FYM teams, communicate with funders, partner organizations, and government services, complete high-level troubleshooting, and proactively mediate disagreements. You will work with team-level directors to sustain Free Your Mind programming, expand organizational mandates to fill the unmet community niches, and maintain Free Your Mind’s public image. You will work closely with the other members of FYM’s executive team, including the Co-Executive Director, Director of Accessibility, Director of Communications, Director of Sustainability (currently hiring), and the Co-Directors of Finance. As Co-Executive Director, you will work with your partner to lead organization-wide initiatives that support Free Your Mind as a whole. This includes coordinated bi-annual (twice a year) recruitment efforts, planning and delivering training programs, managing relationships with funders and other supporters, overseeing budgets and financial reporting, and ensuring organizational compliance with Alberta’s not-for-profit regulations. You will facilitate general meetings and director meetings, ensuring clear communication across the organization. You are also responsible for promptly responding to safety concerns and other emergency situations, supporting conflict resolution through Free Your Mind’s Three Strikes System, and completing annual reporting requirements (e.g., maintaining not-for-profit status with the Government of Alberta, releasing a publicly accessible annual report, and responding to emergent administrative tasks). Please recognize that this role description is not a comprehensive list of everything the Co-Executive Director is meant to oversee – this is a framework, which may change over time, and as the needs of Free Your Mind evolve. Training, including an orientation to Free Your Mind as an organization, and an overview of our safety measures, is made available during onboarding.
