CNC Machinist – New Era Group

New Era Tool and Die Ltd., a New Era Group company, is seeking a qualified CNC Machinist. This position resides at one of our facilities in North York, Ontario. Responsibilities

• Responsible for setup and operation of large CNC Boring Mills, CNC Lathes, CNC Machining Centers
• Machine product (up to 30 tons) to specified requirements as defined on Job Travelers, Drawings, and Sketches. Read blueprints and interpret symbols for tolerances and surface finishes
• Pre-inspection of parts to ensure product compliance prior to metal removal
• Verify tooling requirements before starting a job; escalate issues to supervisor as needed
• Machining at optimal conditions to maintain cost effectiveness
• Read and understand programs to a degree that allows modification/editing of programs
• Maintain tooling in peak condition
• Verify dimensions with precision measuring instruments and document results
• Maintain general housekeeping and a safe work environment in the work area, including chip removal and cleanliness
• Perform daily machine checks per preventative maintenance program and safety procedures
• Keep measuring instruments clean, calibrated, and stored properly
• Maintain equipment in safe and production condition, including lubrication and coolant management
• Use overhead crane to setup and move parts
• Follow established safety practices and report unsafe conditions to management

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 5 years of CNC “custom - one off” machining experience, including setup & operation of CNC Boring Mills (Horizontal), CNC Vertical Lathes and CNC Horizontal Lathes
• Post-secondary diploma or equivalent education an asset
• General machinist certification an asset
• Experience with large complex and fabricated components; analytical approach to machining given material variation
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, charts, and tables
• Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail
• Previous experience with large machine tools (Mecof, Toshiba, Correa, Giana, Alessi Monti) is an asset
• Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, and Siemens controls is an asset
• Willing to work overtime and be on call for after-hours work
• Experience working with overhead cranes
• English or French written and spoken

• Hours per week: 44 hours plus overtime (44-60 hrs)
• Wage: $36.00 - $45.00 per hour
