The Opportunity
We are looking for a tech-forward bookkeeper & controller who understands the nuances of service-based businesses (specifically creative, advertising, and marketing agencies). You aren't just looking for data entry; you are fluent in automation, comfortable with AI-assisted workflows, and understand how modern fintech stacks integrate with the general ledger.
This role is two-faceted:
- Take ownership of Parakeeto’s internal bookkeeping and financial processes
- Provide outsourced bookkeeping and finance support for our high-level agency clients
The role begins on a part-time basis with potential to expand as our accounting practice grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Manage weekly and monthly books for Parakeeto and select clients in QuickBooks Online.
- Bank & Credit Card Reconciliation: Manage multi-currency reconciliations (CAD/USD) across various banking institutions.
- Month-End Close: Prepare accurate monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet) and assist with year-end preparation for tax accountants.
- Accrual Revenue & Cost Recognition: Accurately recognizing revenue & costs for projects and clients based on earned value / % complete. Our consulting team will provide you with % complete values for each project on a monthly basis.
The Tech Stack
You must be proficient in:
- QuickBooks Online (Advanced proficiency required) including AI Agents
- Expense, Revenue, & AP: Stripe, Dext, Ramp, Venn, Wise, and other related (as well as their data feeds and common issues that arise from them)
- Bonus points: Xero, Digits, Puzzle, Bill.com, Gusto, Mercury, Brex & other modern accounting tools.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online.
- Industry Focus: Proven experience managing books for service-based businesses (agencies, consultancies, professional services) is strictly required.
- Understand the difference between Pass-Through Costs, Delivery Costs and OPEX in a service-based business.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent certification (CPB, QBO ProAdvisor certification) is a bonus.
- Regional Knowledge: Experience with North American entities (Canada/USA) is required. Familiarity with GST/HST (Canada) and Sales Tax (USA) is highly valued. Experience with European entities is a plus.
- Tech Aptitude: Comfortable working in a cloud-only environment and excited about exploring how AI is reshaping bookkeeping.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal English. You can explain financial concepts to non-financial creative agency owners.

- Step 5: CEO Interview. Final candidates will meet with the CEO for a final culture check.
