Position Purpose summary
The Client Care Support position works alongside participants by delivering hands-on social and recreational activities, assisting with daily living, encouraging participation in community programs, referring to external resources, and helping develop life skills. The role provides case management and other required support to program staff, including safe food handling and leading lessons or groups as required by the Program.
Accountabilities
Participant Support
- Contribute to the delivery of program services which meet the physical, social, spiritual, and emotional needs of participants
- Interview, assess needs and make referrals on behalf of participants (e.g., funding, treatment, everyday needs)
- Intake / discharge / service cessation process as required
- Packing/disposal of participant belongings (per policy)
- Intervene in crisis situations, de-escalate, respond to emergencies and participant concerns
- Delivery of Naloxone nasal/injection in the event of an opiate poisoning
- First aid as certified and safety permitting
- Organize and participate in social and community activities with participants
- Ensure safe, efficient, and effective delivery of all social, life skills (laundry, hygiene), recreation and leisure activities, cooking skills and food handling practices
- Encourage and support participants to make positive choices and develop problem solving and decision making skills
- Facilitate development of socialization skills and positive relationships in collaboration with the team
- Support cleaning and organizing; decluttering of participant living spaces
- Case management as required and requested
Program Operations
- May be required to drive a transport vehicle for up to 7 passengers
- Food preparation/cooking may be required
- Administering Urine Drug Screening Tests as required by Program
- Ensure adequate program supplies are on hand and maintain program equipment
- Address situations where program rules are not followed, document incidents and inform relevant staff
- Participate in training and orientation of staff as required
- Provide feedback on program development and policy implementation
- Maintain a clean, tidy and organized work site; prepare and send service requests as required
- Medication storage/admin/dispense as defined by program
- Assist facilitator with classes and support participants in cooking skills, leadership and teamwork as required
- Support, respect and give feedback to other team members; report concerns regarding participant behaviors
Administration
- Document activities in accordance with Salvation Army policies and legal requirements
- Participate in staff meetings and related activities as directed
- Prepare and provide reports, surveys and statistical information as requested
- Other duties as required
Critical Relationships
Internal:
- Ad hoc meetings as assigned

Managerial Responsibility
- Reports to the Program Manager
- No direct reports
Financial and Materials Management
- Maintain confidential files and reports
- Maintain a pool of community service resources for easy accessibility
Working Conditions
- Residential settings, community facilities and outdoor recreation areas
- Job involves lifting, twisting, bending; may require long periods of sitting or standing
- Some overtime and shift work (days, evenings, weekends, holidays) may be required
- Programs operate 24/7; multi-site work may be required
- May work with kitchen equipment
- Exposure to potentially disagreeable conditions; follow universal precautions
- Angry or abusive behavior, verbal abuse
- Exposure to bodily fluids, waste, and infectious diseases
- Exposure to drugs, alcohol, and solvents
- Risk of physical attacks
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Sharp objects; immunization requirements for Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis

Education, Qualifications and Certifications
- Post-secondary education/training in a human services field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving abstract
- Standard First Aid with Level C CPR
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Food safety certificate an asset
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 1 year related experience in a social services/mental health setting
- Experience with computer software and data entry
- Experience facilitating programs, groups and activities an asset
- Experience in administrative duties and data input an asset
- Experience in community kitchens, serving, cooking, catering or restaurant environments an asset
- Experience in housing programs and working with substance dependency or mental wellness issues an asset

Position Details
This is a Part-time position, 0.4 FTE. Weekly scheduled hours: 16 hours. Target hiring range is $22.39 to $24.16 per hour.
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $22.39 to $23.28 with a maximum of $24.16. Placement in the salary range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
