Overview

The Chemical Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the following general areas:

  • Quality Management and Control – raw materials through finished product;
  • Regulatory compliance – including reporting, filings, environmental, documentation (i.e. MSDS, labels) etc.;
  • New product development – provide support and direction as part of a team;
  • Liaise with third party chemists, testing facilities and other business partners;

As a member of the manufacturing and production team the Chemical Laboratory Technician will provide technical support to the ongoing selection and use of materials and development and conformance of finished products. This will include monitoring field testing during the new product development process.

Key Accountabilities
  • Assist in / Develop specifications for all raw materials and finished product
  • Implement Quality management and control procedures including documentation
  • Performs various tests and records results
  • Develops / defines testing parameters and requirements
  • Assists in manufacturing recipes, formulations, processes
  • Under the guidance of the R&D Manager, performs tasks related to compliance with all regulations governing materials and operations including; SDS, WHMIS, GHS, labelling, SR&ED documentation, TDG and other various standards, Ecologo, Nordic Swan, regulations in other jurisdictions (i.e. USA, various states), etc.
  • Carries out various quality control tasks including: verify incoming material certifications; basic testing of finished products; verifies weights; records lot numbers; monitor water quality
  • Investigate customer complaints and production issues, including testing sample, interpreting results and communicating solutions
  • Liaise with third party chemists, laboratories and other outside agencies
  • Assists the Research & Development Manager in product development / associated testing
  • Maintains a clean, neat and safe work area; performs routine maintenance / cleaning of laboratory equipment
  • Specifies handling and safety related equipment necessary for safe handling of all products and environments
  • Use various tools, instruments and equipment in the performance of the work
  • Monitors waste production, handling and regulatory conformance
  • Other various duties as assigned
Education and Experience Required
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Chemical related field
  • Chemical technician experience considered an asset
  • 1+ years laboratory experience in a related industry is preferred
  • Previous manufacturing experience considered an asset
  • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation methods
Technical Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office suite, with ability to learn new software

Work Arrangement: On-site

Pay Range: $57,373 - $62,888
