Position: Central Plant Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary

SHIFT: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:00PM

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair combined heat and power and chilled water systems and connected equipment to perform safely and efficiently. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance duties and routines. Conduct routine and emergency maintenance on high-temperature hot water, chilled water, and electrical distribution piping, valves, and controls throughout NYU properties. Perform housekeeping, painting, labeling, etc., on plant equipment and systems. Complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently, utilizing good work practices as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision. Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnosis on plant equipment, systems, and controls. Correct and repair advanced mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults. Understand how to troubleshoot equipment faults and identify root causes. Recommend repair or recovery strategies to restore plant operations. Communicate effectively via email, radio, and phone. Repair and maintain machinery and equipment according to diagrams, manuals, and specifications, using appropriate tools. Calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust control valves, transmitters, PLCs, and instrumentation to ensure proper operation. Assist in planning and scheduling shutdowns and repairs. Order supplies and parts as needed. Respond to emergencies and determine corrective actions.

Qualifications
  • Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Education: Trade school or post-secondary education.
  • Required Experience: 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of heat and chilled water systems, equipment, and controls; maintenance routines; safety codes and standards; soldering, welding, pipe threading, and conduit installation skills; operation & maintenance of mechanical systems; safe use of tools; ability to work safely in various conditions; good communication skills; computer literacy; positive attitude and teamwork skills.
Additional Information

The hourly rate for this position is USD $57.268, based on bargaining unit contracts. This rate is for base pay and does not include incentives or bonuses.
