Overview
pointA (www.pointa.ca) is a non-profit that envisions sustainable transportation options for everyone. Our goal is to connect people to the places they want to go. We aim to give people and businesses transportation options that benefit the environment, the economy, and the well-being of our communities. In collaboration with our funders, members, and partners, we facilitate transportation demand management (TDM) programs and advocate for sustainable transportation.
Our core activities include developing, launching, and monitoring TDM programs for medium- to large- sized organizations. We promote a menu of options for commuters, such as transit, ride-matching, shuttle buses, vanpooling, telecommuting, cycling, and walking.
Summary of Position
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, you will be responsible for increasing the number of clients across our programs and will be the first and main point of contact for leads. This is a collaborative role in which the Business Development Coordinator will be leading the business and sales development efforts, working with program managers who can provide advice and support and supporting the Senior Marketing & Communications Manager on marketing efforts.
Position Responsibilities
- Sales Development (70%):
- Increase the number of pointA clients by working with the pointA team to develop sales strategies and then drafting and delivering sales pitches and workplans, developing relationships with new clients via cold calling/emailing and sales campaigns, and responding to sales inquiries and conducting discovery calls. Our main business development priority is to increase workplace clients for the Smart Commute program.
- Reach out to leads generated from program managers, funders, stakeholders, etc.
- Maintain our CRM system (Hubspot) and manage and refine pointA’s sales processes based on evidence. Work with the rest of the team to ensure that HubSpot is updated regularly by the rest of the team. Develop SOPs and record them in the Employee Handbook to ensure that processes are followed.
- Work with Senior Program Manager and Executive Director to prepare monthly and annual business development plans, setting revenue targets and other sales metrics/KPIs. Incorporate the KPIs into Hubspot, creating dashboards that help inform the pointA team and board on progress.
- Work with the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager to: (1) integrate the KPIs and learnings into the marketing and business development tactics; (2) develop marketing strategy and campaign and support with implementation; (3) drafting presentations, reference materials, social media content, and other documents as required.
- Programs (20%):
- Ensure smooth handoff of clients to program managers.
- Support the programs team at outreach and client events as needed.
- Attend Smart Commute program meetings with funders (e.g., Campaigns and Communications Committee, York Region TMA meetings) to gather first-hand knowledge and updates about the program.
- Business Development – National expansion (10%):
- Work with the Programs team to conduct market research to identify and execute opportunities within new markets and/or industry segments to generate sales revenue.
- Perform data analysis using customer and community feedback, census data, and other data sources to identify potential areas of growth.
What you have
- Minimum 1-2 sales or customer service experience, and knows the sales process from end-to-end.
- A natural communicator with a caring persona, exemplifying pointA’s values and vision as a non-profit.
- Strong research skills to uncover opportunities for potential clients and organizations within a short timeframe.
- Ability to juggle competing demands from funders, potential clients, and the team.
- Experience designing and working within sales software (i.e., Hubspot) including designing dashboards.
- G class licence (if you do not have access to a vehicle, pointA can provide a carshare membership.)
- Flexibility to work outside of usual work hours (9am-5pm) for business events and programming. (Note: pointA has flexible work and overtime/lieu time policies in place.)
Bonus points for
- Experience working in sustainable transportation and/or non-profits
- Lived experience of transportation in Halton Region. Currently living in Halton Region is considered a strong bonus asset.
- Access to a vehicle.
- Cycling experience

Hybrid Work Policy
Our team is fully remote for day-to-day operations. However, this role does require occasional travel (with notice) across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA) for business outreach and events. As there are some areas that are not transit-accessible, we are seeking someone who can drive. pointA will reimburse mileage or car-share membership and usage.
